Setting USB Mass Storage on Samsung Galaxy S4

We just realized Samsung Galaxy S4 devices don't support USB Mass Storage modes. The USB Mass storage feature allows us to transfer media files between your smartphone and computer that has been available since the previous version of the android OS. Unlike others Android smartphones manufacturer that still brings USB Mass Storage on their phone, Samsung using different approach to encourage their users to use MTP Media device to transfer media files on Windows, or using Android File Transfer on Mac. So than, we would like to share how to enable the USB Mass Storage features on Samsung Galaxy S4 devices.

The MTP feature is quite okay to transfer the media files but it known slowly and not always working as you would expect it. Perhaps since the feature is not mature enough and it still need more time to proven to Android users to switch from the USB Mass Storage to MTP media file. However, if you would like to use the USB Mass Storage feature on Samsung Galaxy S4, you have to root your device because the method will install the Busybox and root access to enabling UMS transfer function on your Samsung Galaxy S4.

Fortunately, the USB Mass Storage enable tool available also for some various Galaxy devices such as GT I9500 Exynos 5 Octa, GT I9505 Snapdragon 600 or Galaxy S4 Google Edition, AT&T SGH I337, T-Mobile US SGH M919, and SGH I337M Canada model, Galaxy Note 2, and Galaxy S3 I9300.

At the moment, the USB Mass Storage enabler tool is not support for the internal SD card. It has support for exFAT, FAT32, and microSD external storage drivers.

How to Enable the USB Mass Storage for Samsung Galaxy S4

  1. Download and Install Ssamsung Galaxy USB Mass Storage Enabler from Google Play Store download link.
  2. Launch the Samsung Galaxy USB Mass Storage Enabler.
  3. Connect your Galaxy S4 with your PC via USB data cable.
  4. Tap on the "Mass Storage Mode" button that's shown on the main app menu.
  5. Grant root access for this app when asked for it.

Thats it; the USB Mass Storage is now already installing on your phone. You can start transfer files between your Galaxy S4 external SD card and your computer.
